Have you ever prayed a prayer and asked God to either intervene in a situation or provide something you need and then thought….naaah that’s too big, ‘God, just this much please and I will be so grateful’.
And how many times has God intervened in a situation or provided something in a way that you had never imagined was possible. Well, my hand is up high right now, on both counts!
I often like to imagine the enormity of the entire universe. Each time I do, it literally blows my mind. I usually start by picturing me and then begin to zoom out. The town I live in, the county, the country, the earth, the planets in our solar system, the milky way galaxy. The enormity of the observable universe is humungous. Did you know, the observable universe is 93 billion lightyears across. It contains more stars than there are grains of sand on the entire earth. Yes, imagine you picking up a handful of sand from the beach. There are hundreds of grains just in that handful. Can you even begin to imagine how many grains of sands there are on our entire earth?! What I’ve described isn’t the entirety of what God created. This is only what we know of. Scientists report that there are more of these galaxies and so it goes on and on.
Wow, my head hurts!
God has really been challenging me recently to take the limits off of Him. The challenge is to ask Him to provide something or to intervene in a situation and at the same time, for me not to draw any conclusion on what the resolution might look like.
We like to know, we like to imagine or have a picture or idea of what ‘good’ looks like. We like to be in control. But…what if…what if we let go of wanting to be in control. What if we ask God to intervene in a situation and didn’t have preconceived ideas of what the intervention could look like?
In Isaiah 55: 8–9 (message translation), God says” …I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work…For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think.”
Reading that verse along with the description of the universe is completely mind blowing. You have to agree, it completely puts things into perspective. Not our perspective! The way God thinks is so vastly different to the way you or I think. The difference is the distance between where you or I stand zoomed right out 93 billion lightyears and beyond away.
Come on, let’s take the limits off, and pray for God to intervene in a situation in our lives, with no preconceived ideas of how He will answer, and then trust Him to do things His way. His ways will blow our minds.
Love
